Job Summary

The Estimator will be responsible for accurately assessing the costs associated with roofing projects. This role involves analyzing blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for roofing services. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and a deep understanding of roofing materials and techniques. You will work closely with potential clients, conduct thorough site surveys, analyze project blueprints, and translate those details into comprehensive proposals.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Estimation:
    • Review and interpret project plans, specifications, and other documents to develop comprehensive estimates.
    • Conduct site visits to gather necessary information and assess project scope.
    • Collaborate with project managers, sales teams, and clients to understand project requirements and constraints.
    • Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and other relevant expenses.
    • Utilize estimating software and tools to compile accurate and competitive bids.
    • Stay updated on industry trends, material costs, and best practices to ensure accurate and current estimates.
    • Maintain detailed records of all estimates, proposals, and bid documents.
    • Assist in negotiating contracts and subcontracts.
    • Provide support during the project execution phase, including cost tracking and variance analysis.
    • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure clarity and alignment on project expectations.
    • May assist with project management tasks such as change order proposals.
  • Client Relations:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, addressing their needs and ensuring their satisfaction.
    • Conduct regular client meetings to gather feedback and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Collaborate closely with other departments, including operations and finance, to ensure alignment of initiatives with overall business goals.

Skills

  • •Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Xactimate, PlanSwift) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • •Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
  • •Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • •Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents.
  • •Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • •Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • •Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for site visits.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in estimation, preferably in the roofing or construction industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, construction management, or a related field; MBA or other advanced degree (preferred).
