The Department of Natural Sciences at Lee University is seeking a candidate for a tenure-track position in Chemistry starting in Fall 2026. To qualify for an appointment at the assistant professor level or higher, candidates must hold a Doctorate in Chemistry or a related field. Those with a Master’s degree in Chemistry may be considered for a non-tenure lecturer position. We will consider two areas of expertise for this position. We are primarily seeking expertise in Organic Chemistry, but will consider candidates who can teach Quantitative Analysis. The role of an Organic Chemist will primarily involve teaching organic chemistry and general, organic, and biochemistry courses to nursing students. These courses support our biochemistry, pre-medical, pre-nursing, and pre-physician assistant programs. The role of a Quantitative Chemist would focus on general chemistry, quantitative analysis, and overseeing laboratories, including organic chemistry. A strong record of effective teaching is preferred. Individuals from underrepresented populations are highly encouraged to apply.
Duties will include teaching mainly Organic and GOB chemistry lectures and laboratories, and possibly core science courses. We encourage mentoring undergraduate students in research or other scholarly activities suitable for our primarily teaching-focused institution. Student advising will be expected, along with university and community service, curriculum development, and reporting to the Department Chair. We seek someone who can collaborate effectively with departmental faculty to complement the department’s current strengths.
Required qualifications include Christian commitment and a Community Covenant lifestyle agreement; a doctorate or master’s in the relevant field; demonstrated college teaching ability; capacity to develop and mentor students in limited-scope research; ability to incorporate Christian faith into course lectures; postdoctoral experience is preferred but not required.
